Is Inkjet Printing Technology Ready to Transform the Office Printing Environment?

Published: December 2012

Introduction

Inkjet marking technology has a long history in the document imaging market. Ink is an accepted technology in specialist devices, graphic-arts and professional print environments. Ink is also widely accepted as a technology in consumer-class products. However, inkjet technology accounts for a very small percentage of the SME/SMB and Enterprise print market globally.

Previous InfoTrends research has confirmed the existence of a bias against ink technology within the IT decision maker and influencer community. Negative feelings towards inkjet technology also extend into traditional office equipment reseller channels. As such the continued dominance of laser in SME/SMB and Enterprise environments has been of no surprise.

With a number of new and significant inkjet developments coming to market around the world, is inkjet technology finally ready to transform the office printing landscape?

Project Objectives

InfoTrends will make recommendations to subscribers on the following topics:

  • Critical product features and functionality required for inkjet product acceptance in mainstream SME/SMB and Enterprise workgroup printing across each major geographic region
  • Size of the market opportunity for inkjet technology in the office by global region (North America, Latin America, EMEA, APAC)
  • Segmentation of the business inkjet market across all forms of ink-based devices
  • Differences in attitudes towards ink-based marking technology among high-growth markets, advanced markets, and/or geographic regions
  • Whether customers consider inkjet technology to have any meaningful or inherent advantage over laser technology

Analysis & Project Deliverables

InfoTrends will perform an analysis of the research to develop an understanding of the opportunities and issues surrounding business inkjet printing technology. The project will be delivered in written format and provided as a PDF file. Subscribers of the study will receive:

  • Report detailing key findings and recommendatons
  • Primary market research findings delivered as data tabulations and PowerPoint presentation
  • On-site debrief presentation and Q&A (additional cost for travel expenses)
  • Telephone debrief session for those not requiring an on-site presentation
