(Weymouth, MA) October 16, 2012...InfoTrends is pleased to announce the completion of two multi-client studies surrounding the document outsourcing market. Service Expansion Opportunities for Document Outsourcing: North America and Service Expansion Opportunities for Document Outsourcing: Western Europe are the result of six months of research to identify new service opportunities for providers that have traditionally focused on print and document-centric outsourcing services.
The competitive landscape for document outsourcing has never been more intense. Mergers, acquisitions, emerging technologies, and new entrants have squeezed margins from traditional services during a time when physical document volumes are already in decline. Concurrently, enterprises are seeking to increase business process automation and leverage data to drive decision-making and customer communications. This “perfect storm” of events has put the relevance of traditional contracts in jeopardy and will require providers to revamp their offerings to remain competitive.
After a combined 578 web surveys with enterprise decision makers across Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, InfoTrends has identified services and bundles that enterprises trust existing providers to supply. “Point solutions address cost reduction needs, but put providers into low-margin roles” says Riley McNulty, Associate Director of InfoTrends’ Consulting Service and the study’s project manager. “Bundled services add value and address the more complex set of customer requirements around operational agility, flexibility, and process control.” Furthermore, nuanced challenges arise within specific processes that can only be resolved through tailored services.
Another reality of the document outsourcing market is that many providers are citing expanded services capabilities, but few are fully monetizing these opportunities. “The ‘me too’ mentality in this market has led to confusion about what truly differentiates one provider from another,” says Matt Swain, Associate Director of InfoTrends’ Document Outsourcing Service. “Service providers must direct efforts toward market education on the breadth of their offerings and the unique advantages that they provide over the competition.” Ultimately, enterprise customers are seeking to reduce the number of suppliers they work with–in terms of geographic reach and services provided–and are more comfortable adding services from existing suppliers than bringing in new vendors.
InfoTrends’ Service Expansion Opportunities for Document Outsourcing: North America and Service Expansion Opportunities for Document Outsourcing: Western Europe review the current document outsourcing landscape and identify emerging service opportunities within those regions.
Study objectives include:
Identifying emerging service opportunities beyond traditional outsourcing
Determining the propensity to outsource and estimating the range of contract values
Sizing and forecasting the growth potential by service category and geographic region
Determining the critical staffing and technology requirements for competitive differentiation
Identifying decision-makers and assessing customer requirements and concerns in key verticals
Discussing bundling and marketing strategies
