InfoTrends expects scanner shipments to demonstrate modest growth through 2013, as the global economic downturn has had a significant effect on our forecast. Last year’s forecast predicted healthy growth throughout the forecast period, but we now believe that it will take time for the industry to recover from this recession. As a result, future growth expectations are not quite as bullish as they were in years past. Scanner shipments are expected to decline between 2008 and 2009 before experiencing an uptick through 2013. This growth will be slow at first, but is expected to accelerate as the economy improves.
