Four Vendors Awarded BLI "Picks" for Monochrome Printers

June 6, 2008 - Hackensack (NJ) — Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI), the world’s leading independent tester of document imaging products, announced its prestigious Spring 2008 “Pick” awards in the monochrome printer category today. BLI’s “Pick” awards are presented semi-annually to the products that perform the best in their respective categories throughout BLI’s in-depth lab test. During the test, BLI evaluates all critical performance areas, including reliability, image quality, productivity, print drivers, feedback to workstations, administrative utilities, ease of use, network setup, toner yield, cost of ownership and more.
After acing BLI’s battery of lab tests, the following monochrome models from Brother, Canon, HP and Xerox were selected by BLI as Spring 2008 “Pick” winners:

Xerox Takes Two “Picks”
Taking the BLI “Pick” in the small workgroup monochrome printer category, the Xerox Phaser 3250DN demonstrated flawless reliability and above average productivity in BLI's tests. “Despite its compact size, the Phaser 3250DN is a real workhorse that fits easily into small workgroup environments,” said BLI Associate Editor Carl Schell. “The unit also includes standard automatic duplexing, a feature found on few models in this class, and offers very good print quality.”
In the departmental monochrome printer category, the Xerox Phaser 5550DN was chosen for its excellent performance throughout in BLI’s two-month evaluation.
“The Phaser 5550DN is a sturdily constructed unit that easily meets the needs of even the busiest of workgroup environments; it breezed through our extensive testing with no malfunctions and no misfeeds,” said Senior Printer Analyst Marlene Orr. “The unit offers very good productivity and better than average print quality, with sharp text, clean lines and dense, dark solids.”

Brother Awarded “Pick” For Wireless Personal Printer
Selected as BLI’s “Pick” in the networked personal monochrome printer category, the Brother HL-2170W gave an outstanding performance in BLI’s tests. “One of very few models in this class to include standard wireless printing,
the HL-2170W is easy to set up and produces dark text, cleanly formed lines and dense solids, making it a good fit for a variety of printing needs,” said Tony Maceri, BLI senior test technician. “With a competitive cost per page and low price tag, the unit is very easy on the budget as well.”

In the personal monochrome printer category, the HP LaserJet P1005 was selected as BLI’s “Pick” winner. A low-priced desktop laser printer, the LaserJet P1005 provides strong reliability and excellent ease of use.
“The LaserJet P1005 is an outstanding choice for a personal printer,” said BLI Technical Analyst Marc Bussanich. “The unit is small and fast. Even better, it provides dark, crisp text and better overall image quality than many of its competitors.”

In the personal monochrome multifunction printer category, the Canon imageCLASS MF4270 was selected as BLI’s “Pick” winner. Providing an impressive performance throughout testing, the Canon imageCLASS MF4270 provides strong reliability and impressive ease of use.
“The imageCLASS MF4270 is easy to set up and use, with a user-friendly control panel that includes dedicated hard keys for commonly used functions,” said BLI Test Technician Joe Ellerman. “The unit also produces very good output in print mode and demonstrated the best job stream efficiency in its class and faster-than-average first-page times.”
