Document Capture Solutions Add Value to an MFP Purchase
04/01/2015If you aren’t enhancing every MFP placement with a document capture solution, you are missing out on an opportunity to add value for your customers as well as yourself. Today’s advanced MFPs are designed to serve as the on-ramp to a digital workflow for documents, and the universe of solutions to make that happen goes far beyond the simple scan-to-email and scan-to-folder abilities now standard on most models.
Add-on offerings available from both equipment OEMs and independent software vendors (ISVs) range from straightforward MFP-resident “apps” to robust server-based platforms that offer advanced processing/routing capabilities. There are also cloud-based solutions that take MFP output and deliver to its destination with no on-site software required. Rounding out the category are purpose-built capture applications (which can either be desktop- or server-based) designed to be used by dedicated scan operators capturing and processing large numbers of structured documents such as invoices and healthcare forms. The key to a successful placement, of course, is ascertaining a particular customer’s business challenges and document workflow pain points and then being ready with the knowledge to recommend the right solution.
BLI has tested all of those types of solutions, so a good place to start is on the BLI Solutions Center’s Document Capture & Workflow area. There you’ll find reports on Kodak Alaris Capture Pro Software, Digitech Systems PaperVision Capture and Digitech Systems PaperFlow, as well as PSIGEN Capture Enterprise that handle dedicated capture and processing. For more general-purpose document capture, processing and routing, look at Nuance eCopy ShareScan Suite and, for your Hewlett Packard customers, HP’s Digital Sending Software and Smart Document Scan Software. For more targeted solutions that scan to cloud services or a single back-end application without need for server software, check out the site’s MFP-Embedded Connectors area. We have lab-tested reports covering Xerox App Studio, Canon Scan to Worldox, Dell Document Hub, and Ricoh ICE. And be sure to check back all spring and summer, as we have several more reports in the pipeline, most notably on Konica Minolta Dispatcher Phoenix and Ricoh Streamline NX.
